Rajat’s Career From Gali Cricket to International Match
1. Rajat Domestic Cricket Career
At the beginning of his career, Rajat was a bowler. He began concentrating on batting after playing at the under-15 level. He later participated in the under-19 and under-22 cricket competitions for the Madhya Pradesh team. In the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy, Rajat made his Madhya Pradesh first-class debut on October 30, 2015, against Baroda. With a half-century (60) and a century (101) in his opening two innings, Patidar impressed everyone.
Then, on December 11, 2015, he made his List A debut in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Saurashtra. He made his Twenty20 debut on January 8, 2018, scoring 38 runs against Rajasthan in the Zonal T20 League for the 2017–18 season. When he scored 713 runs in eight games as Madhya Pradesh’s top run scorer in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, he shot to fame. In August 2019, the India Blue team selected him to compete in the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy.
2. Rajat Patidar ipl Career
In the 2021 IPL auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased Rajat in February 2021 for Rs 20 lakh. Rajat debuted in the IPL against the Mumbai Indians on April 9, 2021. In his first season, he only managed to score 71 runs in four games. But RCB let him go before the 2022 IPL auction. At the 2022 IPL mega auction, he was not sold. In the middle of the season, Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired Patidar for Rs 20 lakh to replace the injured Lavnith Sisodia.
In the 2022 IPL Eliminator match on May 25, 2022, Patidar scored an undefeated 112 off 54 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants, helping his team win. This made Patidar the first player without a cap to reach a century in the IPL playoffs.
Rajat was acquired by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for IPL 2025 for INR 11.00 Crores. Rajat has been a member of the RCB team.
3.Rajat International Cricket Career
Patidar was included in the Indian ODI squad for the series against South Africa in October 2022 after showcasing his skills in both domestic cricket and the 2022 IPL season. He was later added to the ODI squad against New Zealand in February 2023 as Shreyas Iyer’s injury replacement. But on both occasions, he was not included in the playing XI.
Patidar hit 22 runs off of 16 balls in his first ODI encounter on December 21, 2023, against South Africa. He was selected in January 2024 to play in the first two Test matches of the Indian Test series against England in place of Virat Kohli. Rajat made his Test debut on February 2, 2024, in the second match of the series. He scored nine runs in the first inning and thirty-two in the second. The injured Shreyas Iyer was later replaced in the team for the final three Test matches by Rajat.
