- Before it was known as Narendra Modi Stadium it was known as Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium. Initially,y it was made in 1983 after 50 acres of land was donated to the Gujarat Government. It was at times just made within 9 months of the donation of the land.
- The first ever match that happened there was the Test Match which was held between India and West Indies on November 12, 1983. At that point in time, it had the capacity of hosting 5000 people there.
- The main highlights of this stadium are that it hosted the World Cup of 1987, 1996, and 2011. This is the place where Kapil Dev took his 432nd Wicket and broke Sir Richard Hadlee’s record.
- In the year 2015, it was shut down by the government for the purpose of renovation. And after 5 years of the shut dow,n it was then opened in 2021.
- Former President Ram Nath Kovind opened it as Motera Stadium in 2020 before renaming it Narendra Modi Stadium.
